Bringing true creativity to life
Debra Kidd’s insightful argument focuses on education’s conformity and compliance at the expense of creativity, and so the “Big Idea” for this piece revolves around the naivety of childlike drawings, and how it plays an important factor for building bigger and brighter futures.
Various styles of animation (hand drawn animation, stop-motion, etc) are brought together into the one piece to accentuate true creativity. Hand drawn lines allows the combined imagination to spring to life, and enables children to fully express their true selves.
Illustrating the foundations
As Debra Kidd emphasizes the reality of things, these imaginative shapes are stripped back onto the dark backgrounds, before being built up once again. The stop-motion photography represent both the teachers and children and how they can work together to achieve those possible dreams.
Each scene is given everyday moments in both the children’s and teachers lives to symbolise the “scaffolding” and foundations of their future, such a studying books, and correcting homework.
